Okay, in more detail, it's an island mostly lost to hostile wilderness with an old, abandoned castle near the center. The castle is full of strange, puzzle-like mechanisms that control the doors and some areas are completely inaccessible without magic. There's an ominous looking cathedral, a library full of books on demons, black magic and taxes and a crumbled coliseum. Books scattered around describe increasingly barbaric administrative practices and other hints that the castellans of the island were slowly going insane. There are signs of fighting literally everywhere and it used to be sitting on top of a Hellgate that opened up into the Devil's throne room.
